Position Description: NEI is committed to providing safe, nutritious, delicious soy products for all levels of the Afghan market. The Program Manager for Soy Technology and Manufacturing will oversee the continued operations of current NEI soy processing factories as well as the installation of new factories as outlined in NEI’s strategic plan. This individual will also oversee the establishment and functioning of a laboratory that will measure the nutritional levels, the shelf lives and product quality levels of NEI products. An additional baking laboratory to test new soy products will be under this individual’s direction. This individual will be responsible to inform the Country Director of production levels and anticipated outputs for all soy processing facilities.
Job Responsibilities:
Lead Nutriana soy product manufacturing in its Kabul operations
Responsible for oversight of regional soy processing factories
Lead research and development into new ways to use soybeans, soy products and soy byproducts
Lead research into soybean, soy product and soybean byproduct quality control
Lead research into new recipes to broaden soybean and soy product acceptance into Afghan cuisine
Oversee the purchase of equipment for research labs, new factory equipment and replacement parts for existing equipment
Maintain inventory of spare parts to ensure needed maintenance and repairs are completed in a timely and efficient manner
Schedule preventative maintenance with NEI technician
Oversee operations of Nutriana/NEI soy processing facilities
Plan and supervise the installation of new Nutriana/NEI soy processing facilities
Other duties as assigned by the country director
Job Specification
Qualifications Required:
Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science
3 years of progressively increasing responsibility in food manufacturing sector
3 years of progressively increasing responsibility in food quality control
Demonstrated experience in designing and marketing new food products
3 years of progressively increasing responsibility for managing staff
Demonstrated experience in setting up food processing facilities
Demonstrated experience in setting up food testing laboratories
Demonstrated knowledge in setting up food quality testing protocols in accordance with international food quality standards
Demonstrated ability to work with a country management team to achieve a common goal
Demonstrated ability to set objectives and work plans to achieve the organizational goals
Demonstrated experience with departmental budgeting and financial control
Demonstrated experience in designing staff training materials on new equipment, upgraded equipment, safety standards and other topics as needed
English Spoken, Written, Reading at professional level
Demonstrated experience in Microsoft Office Suite software
Qualifications Preferred:
Master’s Degree in Food Science
5 years of progressively increasing responsibility in food manufacturing sector
5 years of progressively increasing responsibility in food quality control
Demonstrated experience in working with farmers and farmer associations
5 years of progressively increasing responsibility for managing staff
Demonstrated knowledge of food processing facility scheduling, including preventative maintenance schedules
Demonstrated ability to work with government representatives, international donors, media and international training technicians
Demonstrated experience scheduling & conducting staff training on new equipment, upgraded equipment, safety standards and other topics as needed
