Job Description
The satellite communications technician is responsible for installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of satellite communications systems. These systems include power amplifiers, antenna controllers, up/down converters, satellite modems, monitoring and control software, telemetry systems, and Direct to line Multiplex equipment. Other responsibilities may include documentation and tracking of system changes/updates, emergency communications and disaster recovery support. The ability to read schematics and use of a broad range of test equipment is a must.
At project locations, the satcom tech is responsible for equipment installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of primarily C-Band, and some Ku-band satellite systems. Other responsibilities may include documentation and tracking of system changes/updates, emergency communications support, and the need to read schematics, use a broad range of test equipment and repair down to the component level.
Additional duties include converting a Ku-Band satellite network to C-Band, CAT5 and fiber optic cabling & OSP, wireless data systems, satellite tracking devices, Spec Ans, Remote monitoring, telephone and PBX installation and maintenance, and basic networking.
Job Specification
The Sat Com Technician must have knowledge and experience in the following applications, systems and equipment:
1.8m, 2.4m and 3.8m VSAT systems, C-Band, Ku-Band, Mesh Networking, Vipersat, Comtech etc.
TCP/IP - Configuring hosts and access inter-networks using TCP/IP protocols;
Implementing and integrating network and internet working technologies;
Comprehensive understanding of mobile and fixed SatCom systems deployment;
Ability to read and understand SatCom Link Budget calculations; and
Ability to link satellite and terrestrial circuits to create hybrid telecommunications networks.
Fluent in English is a must.
*NOTICE*
This position is based in Kabul and will require travel to various locations throughout the country of Afghanistan on a regular basis. All work will be conducted within Afghanistan. The candidate will live in accommodations provided by our Client and food, transport, living expenses and security detail will also be provided as needed.
