To provide training to (mostly fresh)civil engineers in KABUL, AFGHANISTAN.
One Week Training Course on Irrigation agronomy (One week home based and one week at Kabul)
At least Masters degree from a recognized university or related institution in Water Resources Engineering or related discipline.
At least ten years progressive experience in Irrigation system design, Irrigation agronomy/ crop production)
Adequate experience/ Demonstrated ability of conducting short term training courses in developing/under developed countries.
Fluency in English, good communication and presentation skills.

Job Specification
Modern techniques and approaches for estimating irrigation requirements. Weather variables and automated meteorological stations, estimates of crop water requirements, use of CROPWAT a computer program for irrigation planning and management.
Irrigation of principal crops grown in Afghanistan and their responses to irrigation.
Irrigation scheduling on the farm, irrigating with saline water, strategies for dealing with water shortages.
TRAINING MANUAL The Trainer will prepare/provide a comprehensive training manual in English language consisting of adequate reading material on all the topics included in the training curriculum given above including comprehensive introduction in the climatic, crop, soil and environmental aspects that determine the water balance of a cultivated field and in the calculation of CROPWAT. The training should also give emphasis to the use of software packages that are helpful for the processing of climatic data, for the simulation of soil, water and salt balance and for the design of irrigation schedules.
The training manual should be of a good standard so that participants are able to use it in their routine working and for training others in the future. Each participant will be given a copy of the training manual.
A soft copy of this manual will be provided by the trainer at least one week in advance of starting of the training.
